Xerraire Does WoW
The invitation came.
I about cringed at the thought. How can I manage to fit something like that in my busy schedule? I can’t do it, I immediately thought. These things are addicting and just over my head. I will stink at it. This is so unlike me, I couldn’t…
My dear friend Mike had sent me an invitation to play World of Warcraft.
World of Warcraft, often abbreviated as WoW, is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) by Blizzard Entertainment, a subsidiary of Activision Blizzard. It is the fourth released game set in the fantasy Warcraft universe, which was first introduced by Warcraft: Orcs & Humans in 1994. World of Warcraft takes place within the Warcraft world of Azeroth, approximately four years after the events at the conclusion of Blizzard’s previous Warcraft release, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne.[6] Blizzard Entertainment announced World of Warcraft on September 2, 2001. The game was released on November 23, 2004, on the 10th anniversary of the Warcraft franchise.
I’ve been friends with Mike a long time. I’d see him online every day and then suddenly, and more than once, he would disappear for weeks, months…all because of these kinds of games.
“I couldn’t do that to my friends,” I thought to myself.
Mike was persistent, however, and while I thought to myself, I do waste some time in my day playing little games, (a little Scrabble here a little Canasta there) I guess I can give this a try.
So far, I can say I don’t hate it. It has me curious enough to go back. I am not sure my computer loves it though, which could be a good thing. Just the item to keep me from being glued to the screen and out of control addicted. 🙂 I have a nice desktop, it just wasn’t bought with gaming in mind. At any rate I accepted the invitation, downloaded the trial, and will try to learn as much as I can in that time.
Here are two screen shots of the game and my Xerraire character. (Click to enlarge)
As you can see, on the right, are a few tasks and quests I have been assigned to do. The top right shows you where you are and points which direction you need to go.
Sigh, so, my family and fiancé have all lost respect for me now. I explained that to Mike who just gave me an evil laugh.
What have I gotten myself into?
🙂
