Wave Rock
For our next trip away, we decided to visit Wave Rock.
Wave Rock is a natural rock formation, a monolith, located east of the small town of Hyden in Western Australia. It derives its name from the fact that it is shaped like a tall breaking ocean wave.
Wave Rock is composed of granite. The total outcrop covers several hectares and is part of the Hyden Rock erosional remnant. The “wave” part of the rock is about 15Â m (50Â ft) high and around 110Â m (350Â ft) long.
Wave Rock is just over 330 kilometres east of Perth.
We arrived at Wave Rock by late afternoon. After we checked in, we grabbed our cameras and went straight away to see it.
What I didn’t know was that you could climb atop the rock, so up we went.
As we made our way back down, this sign wasn’t very encouraging.
