Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk
Many years ago, when John and I first met, he showed me photos of the Tree Top Walk and I decided then I would love to go there.
The park is nearly 20,000 hectares of towering karri and tingle forests to coastal heath. The rugged coastline, peaceful inlets and rivers are a major feature of the park’s beauty.
The Park has long been one of the area’s most popular tourist destinations. The Tree Top Walk, is a walkway that rises up to 38m above the forest. All ages can view the canopy of the magnificent tingle forest. Visitors get a different perspective on the shapes, sounds and movement of the forest.
Even though it was rather far, we made plans to go visit.
I was so excited to see we had arrived!
When John bought the tickets, the lady there warned us ‘it wiggles a bit’.
Well I thought she meant a place or two wiggles, turns out the walk was not steady at all. I found myself very nervous each step we took.
We weren’t even that high when I noticed my shoe was untied, and I was too scared to bend over to tie it. Too afraid to carry on with my shoe untied, John, a true gentleman, tied it for me.
I guess it was about this time that John’s earlier warning, “Hold on to your lens cap” sounded in my head as I heard the clicking sound of my camera’s lens cap falling down to the metal floor. A floor with just enough space for a lens cap to fall through. My eyes closed and almost too scared to open them to look down to see the fate of my camera’s lens, I slowly looked down to find it just sitting there. Now, bending over to tie my shoes was too scary, but for my camera, it was another story. I bent my knees as low as they would go, careful not to knock the cap into any gap, I grabbed it as quickly as I could.
So it turns out, I have a real fear of heights, and I was so dizzy, to the point this was no longer enjoyable as I imagined.
When we finished the loop, John asked if I wanted to go around again. I almost punched him.
🙂
At the gift shop, he bought me a certificate with my name on it, “Barbara survived the tree top walk.”
Earned to the extreme!
I’m proud of you, Barb.
