As I mentioned in another post, the kitchen floor was to be our first house project as husband and wife. Not sure that was totally what John intended, but it worked out that way.
After pulling up all the ugly green icky gluey tile, we realized we were never going to be able to hand sand the whole floor. John booked a floor sander for Easter Monday, as he had the day off from work.
So at a little before 7 AM, we left to pick up the sander from Kennards.
With the morning totally foggy, we left the house to pick up the sander, but our hearts would have rather been taking photos.
John put the bag on to catch the sawdust, which I later learned, doesn’t really grab it all. (the kitchen was covered anyway).
John had the floor covered in white tarp material (so we wouldn’t stick to the floor), and exposes some of the wood to begin sanding.
Thanks to a Bunnings video, we learned some tougher floors should be done diagonally to start.
After some time, John is finally encouraged to see some improvement.
That sawdust in the dustpan only gives a fraction of how much we actually had in the end.
One side finally shows the glue is at last sanded, and you can see the shiny glue part on the other side.
John takes a photo of his finished job. It’s a start. We only have a living room, three bedrooms, and a hallway to go after this gets finished. 🙂
The jarrah wood has turned out prettier than I could even hope.
John has always liked the wood and it’s special to me too. One of the best presents I ever got, was from John, he carved my nickname “Xerraire” into a piece of Jarrah and made it a keychain. I love it and still use it, although it’s a little beat up after all these years.
