Taughannock Falls State Park
So after hours of travel, we were finally at our first destination, Taughannock Falls State Park.
We parked at the visitor center and to my surprise, greeted with the Maryland state flower right here in New York!
Taughannock Falls State Park’s namesake waterfall is one of the outstanding natural attractions of the Northeast. Taughannock Falls plunges 215 feet past rocky cliffs that tower nearly 400 feet above the gorge.
From the overlook, we then decided we would take a trail that allowed us to be at the bottom with the falls.

I don’t often have strangers in my images, but to show the tallness of the waterfall, I went ahead and took the photo with people in the camera’s view.

We stayed there awhile, through rain, drizzle, and a little chill. After talking to an Australian couple with their dog, we turned back. The whole place was just so lush.

As we made our way to the hotel, I noticed the sun trying to come out and the colors in the clouds. It couldn’t be a rainbow, they’re usually in the sky opposite the sun.
It was a great day of travel and seeing this natural wonder, but we were ready for rest, and something to eat.

[…] We started as we had the two summers before, looking from the lookout down to the falls. There was more water in there than our second visit, but no where near the amount of water we saw our first visit. […]
