Sarah Palin, More Than Just Alaska’s Governor
July 3rd, when Sarah Palin announced she was stepping down as governor of Alaska, I was surprised, but I didn’t think it was a huge news story. I guess I was wrong, because what has followed has been on all channels speculating as to why she would do such a thing.
I can’t imagine why people would be spending hours of television time speculating as to why. Money? A book deal? Well she already had a book deal BEFORE deciding to step down, so that can’t be it. Running for president? I don’t think people run for president and quit their job as governor.
So why. I could be wrong, but it seems rather clear to me, and doesn’t need HOURS to figure out.
She has proven to be a no frills, no nonsense type of governor. She cleaned up corruption, even within her own party, a gutsy move for anyone, in fact, perhaps most men would have looked the other way. She did it because she loves the state of Alaska and was committed to work for it.
Running for vice president and even after, her state had to spend 2 million dollars investigating false accusations and FOIA requests. Today, most of her time and her staff’s time is spent responding to the constant barrage of criticism and attacks — and the work for the people of Alaska is being neglected. Not to mention the half a million dollars it cost her to prove herself innocent, and she has.
As a mom, and I am certainly no politician (I couldn’t do any worse than the clowns we have in congress) I believe Sarah Palin’s decision points to how brutally her family has been treated. She perhaps has the grit to deal with the CRAP the opposition has dealt her, but what mother’s heart can see her family and her children so badly treated?
Within days of her selection this is the vermin they dealt out:
- Her downs syndome baby wasn’t hers
- A tasteless remark on SNL about Todd committing incest with his girls.
- Making fun of her pregnant daughter.
When a desperate search from the opposition to use something against her came up short, she was mocked for her beauty, her voice, her sense of humor and “alleged lack of knowledge” of public policy. Her interviews were edited, the interviewers powered up to make her look foolish, her McCain “handlers” became her worst enemies…the people she trusted stabbed her in the back.
Later, David Letterman called this mother of five, grandmother of one, wife of a man who loves her dearly, dressing like a “slutty flight attendant.” But to go yet lower, joked about her 14-year-old daughter being “knocked up” by Alex Rodriguez at a Mets game. His apology was that he thought it was the 18-year-old daughter, the young single mom, and not the younger. Like that makes it a whole lot better.
To me, the last straw, the final break to a mom’s heart had to be the mockery of Trig, baby Trig…Down syndrome Trig. Altering his photo on a popular blog website, blogging inexpressibly profane remarks about his birth and leaving them on the website for over a week.
A statement in a recent speech she even said, “By the way, sure wish folks could ever, ever understand that we all learn so much from someone like Trig — I know he needs me, but I need him even more…what a child can offer to set priorities right — that time is precious…the world needs more ‘Trigs,’ not fewer.”
So if she quit and people think that’s gutless, they should put on her shoes for a time.
To me, I see a good woman wishing to stop the waste of time and money for the Alaskan people and to quench the infliction of pain on her family. I don’t think that’s quitting, I think that’s putting her priorities in order.
