Rain was most certainly the word to describe 2016 Perth spring.
This day, we had planned to go to Margaret River to the Berry Farm, got there, but had to move on because of rain.
As we left home and headed south, we tried not to be discouraged by the clouds and were hopeful to get to the Berry Farm.
We made a rest stop. It was decorated nicely.
We made a stop in the burnt area in Johnston Road, there I saw my first tall leek orchid. It was as tall as me, and it was a stunner. So beautiful!
We came across this native Iris, I had never seen one that was pink.
Got to see a pink enamel orchid too!
Very sad driving through the burnt area.
Hard to look at the stark landscape.
We saw a Southern Heath Monitor from the truck, I went close to get a better look.
It was patient with me, I must have taken two dozen photos.
Also called Rosenberg’s monitor, I learned something interesting. It lays its eggs in termite mounds ( as do a few other animals). After they have deposited their eggs, they leave the termites to seal up the hole again, cementing the eggs in. The constant temperature maintained by the termites incubates the eggs and it is thought that the mothers return to the nest at hatching time to help their offspring escape.
In the area of the Monitor, we saw so many lovely wildflowers…
Moving on, we headed to the Berry Farm but upon arrival, it was truly raining, and it didn’t look like it was going to stop anytime soon. So we turned the car northwards, headed to region we like a lot, close to where we got married.
As we drove north, the rain dampened our spirits some, but it was fun to see the road become misty from the heat and the rain.
We hiked from Dunsborough towards Castle Rock. We saw birds, wildflowers and orchids. The birds stayed well hidden from our cameras, but the flowers were less shy.
We got off the path for a short while and enjoyed this quiet beach, no one was around.
Western Australia is spoiling me, I may never enjoy a crowded beach again.
Couldn’t help but marvel at this huge pimelea flower, very typical flower in this area, I had never seen one so large.
Before we had to go, some fun time in the water.
Leaving the beach, and the trail, John decided to go off road…It was a long, rough, bumpy ride. (Which likely was a reason I needed a Chiropractor later).
What I didn’t expect, was after being a long time, deep in the bush, for the world to open up and the Indian Ocean to appear!
A small walk revealed a small cove below us.
A message to all children, dare to dream. It was mine to one day see the Indian Ocean and now I get to see it often!
Next to Yalingup (Place of love) to hopefully see a sunset.
And a fine sunset it was. Loved all the rays.
The colors got intense later.
So things didn’t go to plan.
That was the theme of our spring because of the rain.
We had a ton of fun anyway.
