Perth Sculptures: Hopscotch

Perth is a city that loves its sculptures, maybe even the whole of Western Australia.  I have been in some remote places and one can still find a sculpture even there. How interesting in this outing to discover one dedicated to a beloved old game of my childhood, Hopscotch.

At first I was going to blog about a few sculptures, but then I thought to write about them one at a time. Recently we were out in the late afternoon and the lighting seemed perfect to photograph the sculptures in that area. We were at the “Burswood Park Heritage Trail”, which is located adjacent to the Burswood Casino, just over the river from Perth city. This sculpture about Hopscotch is just so charming.

So here is the sculpture, showing three children, all wearing Victorian style clothing. I suppose the statue was life sized.

The artists are Joan Walsh-Smith, Charles Smith, who I have learned are responsible for many sculptures in and around Perth.

There are times I wish I had the resources that young people have today – oh how my homework assignments would be so creative! There are other times I am glad I grew up in the times that I did, getting the chalk out and drawing out the hopscotch in the driveway was always a start to good times.
