Australia Day, 4th of July, for me, it’s all about the fireworks and always has been. John is learning that I will do about anything to see a good fireworks show. This week at home, (it’s been very hot out, even people who have lived here most of their lives are complaining), I kept the air conditioning off as much as I could possibly stand it, mainly, just to get ready to spending the day in the heat to see the fireworks. Unfortunately, it mostly means John does all the work. He packs the cooler, the blankets, the tripods, he shops for snacks and drinks to take along…he deals with the drive and the parking and the general hassles that just is needed to go to an event like this.
We got there after lunch, and in time to watch some young people from the Wheatbelt dancing. I think they were very talented. There were two groups, Static Crew and Little Sparks.
Another local group danced aboriginal dance to…
…Aboriginal music, like the didgeridoo.
As much as there was to see and do on the ground, we came for the sky show and there was plenty going on above, too.
A bird, a plane. Don’t think that was planned.
This one was a planned near miss.
After a day walking around and sitting in the ‘splash zone’ by the river where dolphins literally swam past us, the sun was finally going down.
It WAS splashy!
Getting excited for the fireworks!
A kiss to start the night, and to show John how much I appreciate being taken to Perth for the Sky show!
Which could only mean the fireworks were ready to begin, and they went on for the next 30 minutes!
And nearly ALL of my fireworks photos turned out, and I will not share all but I will share many.
John liked the green ones.
We learned 300,000 people showed up to see the Fireworks.
This year marked the 30th anniversary of the City of Perth Skyworks.
Perth chose to celebrate Skyworks’ heritage by featuring Perth’s favourite songs from soundtracks over the years.
Apparently people behaved themselves at this family event, arrests were 60 less than last year.
Unlike our 4th of July, in Perth the fireworks begin at 8 PM.
One worry after the fireworks was that one 5 year old boy had gone missing, but was found the next morning with family!
Later we found out a barge caught on fire after the show.
As much as I prepared for the heat, I didn’t expect it to get as cold as it did at night.
I spent the rest of the evening wrapped up in a large towel.
I often love these more subtle colored fireworks.
Just when you thought this has to be the finale, they are so magnificent, it really wasn’t time yet.
But soon enough the finale was happening.
And I hated to see it end, but thankful to have gone!
