Nice days are dangerous

“Fall seven times, stand up eight.”
-Japanese Proverb

barn doorI don’t think we in Maryland know what to do on a nice day. Especially a nice, pretty, sunny, 60 ° day in the middle of January! I mean we know what to do, but, there is like a euphoria that comes over us, and putting one foot in front of the other carefully, like we USUALLY do over ice and snow, becomes something we don’t think of anymore.

Such was my day yesterday. I decided that since it was such a nice day, I would tidy up after Christmas and carry the boxes to the barn, which we use for a good amount of storage. I misjudged my stepping (if I judged at all), and I was sent falling, twisting, down, very hard. I was stunned at first and dared not move. No one saw me go, and I was stuck there for a long time.

I now have head to toe body aches, even my THUMB of all things! I had to go to the store and pick up my son from work, and Laura went with me. She could see the fall had knocked some sense out of me. It was a very bad fall.

I’ve said it before and will say it again. I truly need a keeper. 🙂

Perhaps I will be OK and careful for awhile, and when the ice and snow does come, I always tread very deliberately. So, I should be good….
till spring 🙂

Be careful, Barbara! You are a very important person — take your time and heal well. I hope you feel much better, very soon.

I thought I was the clumsy one! Remember, my mom had to call your
mom before I came over so she could put away anything valuable so
I wouldn’t fall into it or break it! (Remember the PUZZLE of the
Kennedy Center at Night?) Oh, well, sorry you got hurt, at our age
it takes a lot longer to bounce back. Get better soon.
    Love ya!

I’ll be keeping an eye on your Wishlist now to see if one of those Medical Alert Necklaces appears. You know, the one you can yell in…. “Help, I’ve fallen and I can’t get up!!” (joking) I’m one to talk, a few weeks ago, I was cleaning ash from the woodstove and had a bucket full of coals I was intending to dump in the snow behind the shed. While walking through the front yard in my house-slippers, my feet flew in the air and I went flat on my back. Luckily, I had the sense to let go of the bucket or them hot coals might have ended up all over me!
