One turn of the calendar into the month of May and there it is. Mother’s Day, my birthday and Rubí’s birthday all together.
And no mom.
All those years I stressed what to get her for mother’s day, and this year there was no flower shop or nursery to go to hoping to find something to light up her face.
All those years the yellow cake and vanilla icing in three tiers cake she would make me. It occurred to me how sad I was on HER birthday, how empty MY birthday would feel without her. No mom, and she really knew how to make every occasion SPECIAL.
Her words, perhaps a week or so before she died, “You are surrounded by love here, you will be OK.”
Determined to be OK, I took to heart that I am a mother and I would enjoy my three and the grandchildren.
Jenny and Miquel must have decided to get the day started early. A few days before Mother’s day, flowers arrived.
The next day, chocolate berry cheesecake bites. Everything arrived with cute notes, which I will keep forever.
When the flowers started to open, they exploded in color.
Yet the next day, came a miniature rose!
Still the net came chocolate covered strawberries!
On the actual day, after church (a bad day for bikinis) Rubí presented me with a rose. Which Laura grabbed a photo with the other flowers showing off in the background.
Since it was a perfect day, we went to the park for a nice walk with Silas and Rubi.
Actually, Silas would be going the 2 + miles on his bike.
And it was the most perfect day.
After bursts of running by Rubi and Silas having sprints on his bike, it was time to say good-bye to Kinder Farm Park.
Silas likes Tia Laura’s trunk.
After a nice afternoon in the sun, and being from Maryland, the only next stop possible is…
Snowballs! (Shaved ice, flavor, and brain freeze!)
Which I had to read the meñu to Rubí, and even with all those choices, she knew she wanted Cherry. Silas and Laura had the popular Skylite.
Skylite is a favorite for me, but to be different, I got another favorite, Creamsicle. (Kind of an orange and vanilla ice cream mix).
We went home, we let Texas Roadhouse do the cooking. We discussed bikinis and the day’s sermon.
Love them all so. They love me.
Sorry Mom, I had a few melt downs missing you, but I’m OK.
