We have been to Lesmurdie Falls back in the spring of 2013 , but since we recently had some rains, seemed like a good idea to revisit the falls. Since this time we are in the beginning of autumn and unlike before, the end of rains season, there wasn’t as much water in the falls, it was still a very pleasant outing. Seems like any outing in 2020 is a good outing.
John decided unlike last time, instead of parking at the top and hiking down to the bottom, we’d park at the bottom. This might be easier for me in light of a recently sprained ankle. Looking at the start of the path I don’t think I was very hopeful. I texted a photo to my daughter and she immediately wrote back, “Be Careful!” Little did I know, this was the easy part. From the top though, it’s considered a grade 3 hike. Not bad for the healthy I suppose .
Every stressful step and rock climb was worth the effort. I don’t know what it is about my family and waterfalls these past years, but we are definitely drawn to them.
Lesmurdie Falls is 22 kilometres east of Perth. Located within the Lesmurdie Falls National Park, this 50-metre waterfall is one of the most spectacular falls on the Darling Range escarpment.
The first photos were taken with the phone camera, but it was nice to set up the tripod and get that smooth water photo that I like to capture with waterfalls. Hard to get a shot without people (and their pets), it was a rather popular spot on a lovely Saturday with the promise of rain on Sunday.
The best time to visit is during winter and spring, when the trail is abundant with wildflowers and the falls are at high water levels, but I enjoyed this wide angled shot with more than usual rocks exposed. Just lovely.
A little close up of the falls. A lovely day, I succeeded in the walk without further injury, I even had the help of a stranger up one of the rocks while John pushed from behind 🙂
It’s always a good day to get out and experience creation.
