Hiking to the Waterfall

After going to the Taughannock Lookout, it was time to hike to the waterfall.

I have to admit that when Laura and I came here the first time, this was the place I thought the children would enjoy most and have longed to be here with them.

Silas and roots of a tree
While most of us enter the trail looking at the Lower Falls with in Taughannock State Park, Silas amuses himself at the roots of a tree.
Lower Falls
There was not as much water in these falls as well, as much as other times. but still lovely.
water along the trail
Taughannock Creek is along the trail, and part of the reason I feel the children would enjoy this walk.
wildflowers
One of the lovely wildflowers growing at the park Gorge trail. The gorge supports a “Shale Cliff and Talus” community of plants, including three regionally rare species classified as threatened in New York State: Butterwort (Pinguicula vulgaris), birds-eye primrose (Primula mistassinica) and yellow mountain saxifrage (Saxifraga aizoides).
Miquel and children
The children find fun immediately making short climbs. Uncle Meek is always close by making sure they don’t fall.
the expanse of the gorge
The creek was inviting, but it was decided we’d walk it on our way back.
Silas and Rubi
The big kids climb a little higher than the little two.
Posing at the gorge.
Most everyone joins in! (That Ezra. very happy to reach as high as the big kids!)
Miquel, Jenny, Silas and Mireia
Time to keep going, Miquel tries to direct Mireia. (While wearing my heavy camera gear, such a good uncle and good son!)

A picture for John
A picture I took for John, he loves tree trunks and wood.
Hint of autumn at the waterfall.
At last we’re at the waterfall. Here in New York in August, a hint of autumn is clearly shown.

Mireia not with the family.
This family and trying to get a pic of all of them. Notice Mireia is distracted and nearly overboard.
Lopez family
Not the best pic, but it will have to do after about 25 other attempts. Love how Mireia seems to be taking a photo back with her fingers to her eyes.
Laura
Laura is a pro with the selfie, who needs their picture taken?
Jenny and Laura
She lets me get a photo with Jenny anyway. 🙂
walking the creek
Now came the fun I was hoping to see the kids have. Walking back via the creek. The children really enjoyed walking on the layers of rock and maybe getting a little wet in the water.
Walking the creek
I am so glad we gave a half day’s time to this walk!
Ezra jumps with uncle Meek
Big step down!
Mireia gets a lift up
Later, Mireia gets a lift up with Uncle Meek’s help.

Now it’s Mireia’s turn to help Uncle Meek

A perfect family day together.
