Gloucester Tree

After our walk in the treetops, we went to Pemberton.

Where we were!

Pemberton is a town located in the South West region of Western Australia, named after the early settler Pemberton Walcott. It is the home of the karri tree, the largest tree in Western Australia and the third largest hardwood tree in the world.

The nearby Gloucester National Park contains three climbable karri trees, each in excess of 60 metres tall. The most famous is the Gloucester Tree, this tree has been fitted with metal rungs which allow visitors to climb these trees and reach the constructed lookout at the top.

At 72 metres in height, it is the world’s tallest fire-lookout tree, and visitors can climb up to a platform in its upper branches for a spectacular view of the surrounding karri forest.

Climbing the tree is what Laura and John had in mind. Sadly, I opted out after being dizzy on the tree top walk.

In a surprisingly short time they were at the top!

Time to come down now.

While they were 200 feet up in the air, I stayed on the ground taking photos of the variety of birds there.
