Driving to Dalwallinu

Driving to Dalwallinu

John took some time off for my arrival so we could begin Honeymoon 3.0* and start our trek looking for wildflowers. It’s hard to plan these things as wildflowers arrivals depend on the weather such as rain, and according to everyone we met along the way, there hadn’t been much in the way of rain in the region.

But that’s not how our trip started, it was raining early in the morning as we headed north to Wildflower Country.

Neither one of us was discouraged by the rain. In fact, I thought it made the trip even more interesting…such as when the sun finally began to show and the dark clouds opened up like this.

So we had fun making little stops, taking our cameras with us. For me, after being here all summer with little or no rain, this was refreshing to see.

The first wildflower to be seen, an acacia by the road. These were everywhere, all kinds of acacias. It occurred to me that our spring in Maryland begins with a lot of yellows and purples.

Hope from above for our trip? A rainbow appears, as if I wasn’t excited enough to be with my husband and he was taking me away for a needed vacation.

Looking around, it was clear we weren’t in Perth anymore, and I couldn’t help but notice the contrast of the green winter to the browns of Western Australia summers.

Some towns were very interesting to pass through…

Our destination was getting closer.

The sun played with us all day, going in and out, but that’s OK, I like fog too.

I don’t think I will ever get tired of seeing the different trees here.

Canola fields were everywhere, just as I remembered on our trip to the South West. It has a very strong smell to it, you know immediately when you’re near a field.

The drive held the promise for a lovely time together. If we found wildflowers or not, I was just enjoying everything!
Next, the town of Dalwallinu….

* Honeymoon 3.o…Since we were married and only together a short time after, I mentioned to John that our honeymoon would have to be extended beyond the year they give most couples. I mean, why not? Ours was cut short and keeps getting interrupted, hence, this was the continuing story of our honeymoon period, or what we’ve named as Honeymoon 3.0 for this round.
