Driving in Pennsylvania
Long before Mapquest, driving through Pennsylvania was truly an experience. My parents and I often made jokes that their signs rarely matched the correct information. Route numbers seemed confused, detours were enough to send you into another dimension, and towns were marked but somehow never appeared, just like their exit signs.
But that was the seventies.
Yesterday, while driving Miquel to a location near Erie so he could meet with other students from Northland to get to Wisconsin, the signs took on another form. There seems to be a fascination with seatbelts.
Buckle Up!
For more information call: 1-888-393-9399 (Why do they need more information to buckle up? Doesn’t the reminder sign suffice?)
Fasten Your Seatbelts for the next Million Miles! (in the seventies, that would have made sense, for if you went by their posted directions, you would have never left the state, driving aimlessly through for millions of miles).
But the most curious of signs this trip for me was:
Why in heaven’s name are South American camelids for sale….in Pennsylvania?
Anyway, the bright side of our trip yesterday is we entered and left Pennsylvania without getting lost, braved the snow & sleet of the mountains, and made it home very safe. I woke up to Miranda’s email that Miquel got to Wisconsin completely in one piece as well.
This begins Miquel’s journey into college life, we will miss him here, but, Northland is a very good school and we hope he does well.
Today is a day of recovery. Twelve hours straight of driving has me a little tired.
