Data Recovery Mama
Laura borrowed my camera last night and after a session with it, she downloaded the photos to her laptop in her usual fashion, then came to my room to put the camera and everything away.
Not long after that, I heard a little panic from her room, “Where did my pictures go?”
She was sure she downloaded them, and I went to her room and showed her how to do a search for images modified on that day. Nothing came up. We then looked on the camera, and the card was empty. The photos were definitely gone.
After a few searches on her laptop with nothing appearing, I decided to run some data recovery software I had previously downloaded for my own “crisis”with my external hard drive not so long ago. So I put the card in the USB card reader and ran the software. Indeed, the images could be recovered, but both programs would cost a bundle, as they were only running in demo mode. A shame, they were truly easy to run, and I could almost TASTE the photos, I wanted to retrieve them for my daughter so badly.
Almost ready to tell my daughter that the images were truly gone, I made an attempt to find a FREE data recovery tool. I found one. She had already disappeared into her room preparing herself to accept the fate of her photos.
I googled FREE data recovery and downloaded the first one I saw: ADRC Data Recovery
It was surprisingly easy for a novice like me on this issue, but, there was one surprise yet even more. Not only were images listed that were just taken, but images taken MONTHS ago! Just shows you, deleted files CAN be recovered !
I wish it had been this easy for my external, but I am happy that I could get the photos for Laura, and oh, how much I loved that it was FREE!
It can sometimes take a while to find truly free software but you can generally find free software to do just about anything if you try hard enough.
Well done on finding the data recovery software. I’ll have to remember that one in case I ever need it.
Awesome. I am glad you were able to get Laura’s photos back and more! ~Wendy
I had to do that recently. I had some corrupted files on my camera disk and my computer would not let me get the ones that were good! I don’t remember which program I used.
