Comcast Update
If you read my blog rather regularly, you know about my frustration with Comcast.
I thought I owed an update.
Monday came and their maintenance man came to look at the ‘tap’ up a telephone pole. He did so with some difficulty. It seems the pole is built near a ditch, and he couldn’t get his truck with a moving ‘lift’ near enough, and I feared the worse, he wasn’t going to be able to work on my cable that day.
He was persistant however (or took pity on me), and asked if he could take his truck up into the yard and try from another angle. I looked at my mom’s rose bush and a few trees that might get in the way, and said, “Sure”
🙂 “Go ahead.”
So he did, and again, he had a hard time between wires and tree branches, but he fiddled up there a long time.
I went into the house to leave him to his job. Some time later, he tells me, “I don’t see a thing wrong.” He proceded to show me how fast his laptop goes while hooked into the line up there. Indeed it was fine. 8 MB download and 700 kb upload. In the house, Miquel was on the net and it was flying.
He said, he would have Comcast “flag” my account, and the next time it acted up, he would come running, if he wasn’t busy in a job. He told me that was part of his troubleshooting job, to be on call like that.
I wasn’t too comforted when he pulled out of the yard saying, “Let’s hope it just fixes itself” and waved goodbye.
Well, we both said at the same time, “nah, its doubtful” and laughed.
Truth is, whatever he did up there, worked. I seem to be blazing around the net like old times.
I should be a happy camper.
Here’s the thing. I still have a dangling orange cable, hundreds of yards of it, from the pole to my side of the house where the PC is…no one has come to bury it.
Here it is hanging from the pole near the road…
It crosses my driveway…
It goes down past the crownvetch…
Across the front of the yard…
Under the shrubbery and growth…
Turning into the yard towards the house…
Towards the fence…
Under the fence…
…and finally to my side of the house to the computer.
Something tells me my issues with Comcast will NEVER be over.
🙂
I just love that orange cable. 🙂
I don’t mean to poke fun at your Comcast nightmare but I found it funny how
you were willing to sacrifice Mom’s rosebush and trees in hopes of repair! The
documentation of the orange cable’s trek to your house was a hoot as well.
I think I might send you my rouge squirell. All the exposed plastic/rubber. He’d
be a happy camper at your place and perhaps leave Wendy’s car alone!
Oh mama! It is indeed a saga. You are not the only one with a cable winding across
your yard. My parents had a cable (from Vonage, not com-cast) across our yard for
months. My dad a few times with no results, and eventually told to tell them if
they didn’t bury it before winter, the snow
plow would shear it off and it would be their fault. (He didn’t bother to tell them it
would be HIS plow, but it motivated them.) So they buried it.
The next spring, somebody came to bury it again, likely because we called and asked
them to do it so many times.
Sigh.
May you fare better.
