“We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light.”
~ Plato
For all of its faults, Facebook can be a load of information, and I was excited to read an announcement about Christmas Light Trails of Perth . I was ready to go as soon as I read it, but honestly, we had night after night of almost gale force winds. Then it got hot.
Finally we had a good evening’s weather to go to Perth.
Just driving in was lovely.
I am so not used to seeing Christmas lights and Palm trees.
Each decoration was so lovely
I guess it’s been a while since I’ve been in any city during the holidays. The last time might have been when we went to Washington D.C.
So I am a tourist, palm tree again. Not to mention the star reflected in the glass window.
The decorations were even more beautiful as the sky got darker.
Lights in front of Wesley Uniting Church
From there we turned into a thoroughfare that was lit up nice and had plenty of activity.
Like this Jolly Santa
Couldn’t resist the lights in the puddle
This ‘tree’ was particularly lovely!
I pointed the camera up from the bottom to see inside.
When you cross the street, who doesn’t love to see a row of angels?
I’ve seen Council House lit up before, but it was really special for the holidays.
A cascade of lights across the street at the Library
One of my favorites of the evening was the projected scenes at the façade of St. Georges Cathedral, showing a manger scene…
and the Wise Men
But the scene on the church changes continually.
Back home we have lit up reindeer on our lawns, only makes sense there in Australia it would be kangaroos.
They were popular and hard to capture without tons of people around them. I was rather patient.

Magical swans at Elizabeth Quay
More magical swans
Now this technically isn’t part of the light trail, but, I like them. 🙂
a lot. 🙂
Not part of the trail, but on our way to see Gingey, a stop at a gingerbread house …
… and a beautifully decorated tree?
And here was Gingey, I guess a good name for a gingerbread man.
On our way to the last display, I couldn’t resist a shot of this tree and its reflections everywhere.
Last stop, Santa’s Sleigh at Heritage Square
Close up of the reindeer
As we were in the car and leaving, I just had to take a shot of the festive red bows.
