Lesmurdie Waterfall
“In the roar of Your waterfalls, ancient depths surge, calling out to the deep.” Psalm 42:7 Inspired by all the rain and the waterfalls we have already seen, we decided to go to Lesmurdie Falls.

The first Sunday in September is Father’s Day in Australia. After a wonderful Father’s day message at church attached with some Tim Tams for all the dads, we went to Dad and Iris’s house. We showed up just as John’s son’s Jeff and Jamie were also arriving.
Coming back from our visit to Rica Erickson Reserve, we decided to once again, stop at Noble Falls. This time we would try to get another view of the falls, from farther down the bottom. The last time we were here, it was so full of water, there would have...
In an effort to keep looking for wildflowers we went to Rica Erickson Reserve. We had a good day, good weather, it was a perfect day to go. Frederica Lucy “Rica” Erickson (nee Sandilands) is well known and respected in many areas and by many people. Devoted to her family...
New Norcia is the only monastic town in Australia. It was right about here in our walk that I saw a bird. John and I were walking together, and I guess John didn’t see it. The bird came straight at us. Better said, straight at ME! Years of...
Still enjoying our Saturday outing we decided to go to New Norcia before we stopped at the next wildflower spot. Then we saw…the dish. Not THE DISH that put Parkes, Australia on the map, but a dish.
I couldn’t help but notice as I was weeding the garden however, that even Australia’s weeds are pretty. And one of the reasons we selected the flowers we did…
Technically it’s still WINTER here in Western Australia. I had to keep reminding myself of that as we walked through the bush and saw all these lovely colors and wildflowers… Koondoola Bush The bushland is 136 hectares of mainly banksia woodland with scattered jarrah and lower lying, wetter areas with...
Thanks to Facebook, now I can offer suggestions as to what places we might visit. I found on Tim’s Australian Nature Pics a few bird photos from a place that John told me was close by, Lake Gwelup, so we went. Situated on the western side of the suburb of...
Laura’s Music John back to work, it was time for me to settle in a routine here in our Perth home. A good place to start was to get my music sorted and ready to listen to as I do housework. As a sort of good-bye present, Laura gave me...
Back home again, we decided to have an outing at John Forrest National Park. Inspired by all the water we saw on Lover’s Lane and Noble Falls, we were sure THIS time there would be water in the waterfalls at John Forrest. The last times we went, there was not...
Getting closer to home, we stopped in on Noble Falls. John was surprised at the level of the water. Little did I know then that we would return two weeks later with the water much lower, but it was still lovely.
Leaving Toodyay, it wasn’t long we were stopped again. A cute place, lush and green.
Now there’s a name. Toodyay. The meaning of the name is uncertain, although it is Indigenous Noongar in origin – maps in 1836 referred to “Duidgee”, while some believe it was named for a local woman named Toodyeep who accompanied early explorers in the area. The Shire of Toodyay’s official...
It was time to leave the Convent, and the day promised rain. Perhaps we would go straight home or make stops between showers? It seemed uncertain because of the rain. A girl can dream can’t she? And when I do, I usually dream BIG.
Our travels towards Perth brought us to a lovely spot of wildflowers. Jug Orchid (Stamnorchis recurva – formerly Pterostylis recurva) Flowers large, jug shaped – thus the common name. Older flowers have reddish hue but new flowers are white with green and brown markings.
John knows I like to head to the beach or the nearest windmill for a nice sunset, but I was so tired from our day out at Camel Soaks and long hikes to holes in the ground and such, that I said, “Today, let’s not GO to a sunset, let’s...
Sometimes it’s not about where you’re going, it’s the journey. Since I am in a whole different country, I like seeing what is along the trip as well. So we left Camel Soak. I relaxed and looked out the window.
Leaving the wreath flowers, we headed towards Perenjori. We crossed a lovely lake, but there was no where to stop to take photos. I said, no matter, since we were going to detour to this place called Camel Soak, where orchids were promised in the brochure, on the map there...
Leaving Paynes Find, we went right back down the road where we came from.
Still on our way to Paynes Find, and had enough of Everlastings to photograph, out of the corner of my eye, I spotted a rather large bird. Over a 100 photos later, we got back into the car and headed to Paynes Find.
If it’s magic, then why can’t it be everlasting Like the sun that always shines Like the poets in this rhyme Like the galaxies in time ~Stevie Wonder It can be everlasting, Stevie, especially when talking about these wildflowers, the Everlastings. It occurs to me as I write this blog,...
Psalms Chapter 8 3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; 4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? When it became well night, John and I...
For some reason, as we were planning our trip around Wildflower Country, an Old Convent caught my eye as the place to stay. I thought as a service to anyone else considering staying there I would give my review and thoughts on the place. First, perhaps get a few negatives...
It was too soon to check into the convent, so we left Dalwallinu and headed off to find some wildflowers. Buntine Rocks was where we were headed. I did warn the dear man that he could be in trouble with my family who have just put up with me after...
We decided for our stay, we would find a place in the town of Dalwallinu. Dalwallinu is a town in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, located 248 km from Perth via the Great Northern Highway. Agriculture and supporting industries are the town’s primary economic activities. The town is also...
Driving to Dalwallinu John took some time off for my arrival so we could begin Honeymoon 3.0* and start our trek looking for wildflowers. It’s hard to plan these things as wildflowers arrivals depend on the weather such as rain, and according to everyone we met along the way, there...
I am back in Perth, Australia, and I must say it was a smooth journey, in spite of the time and distance. Two days, three planes, four airports, and one missing Friday later, it’s good to be on the ground, and likely will soon be better if ever I fully...
