Bush Bistro
After our walk up Wave Rock, Laura and I both were ravenous. We asked at the desk where we were staying and the lady suggested the Bush Bistro just a few minutes down the road in Hyden.
So we were off. The smells outside the restaurant were amazing. It was very cozy and rustic looking, the atmosphere was great, and by those smells, so was the food.
First curious thing to happen was we were not seated. So I asked if we could just sit anywhere, and yes, we could.
We took a look at the menu, and everything looked great, but the prices! A hamburger was $23.00!!!!
Not having many choices at night in Hyden, we decided we were going to have to ignore the prices and eat there anyway. I was confused how to order, so we were told we would have to go to the meat case, select what we wanted and then go cook it.
Cook it!??? Are you kidding me? My first thought was at these prices I shouldn’t have to cook but in fact have it prepared AND fed to me!
I think the ladies there were kind of tickled at my surprise and itsy bitsy outrage.
So I chose my burger and Laura chose some chicken($25.75 by the way). Off we went to the grill in the back of the restaurant and cooked our meat. It was actually kind of fun, and we were able to cook them just the way we liked them. There were an array of sauces to add to the meats, and also prepared side dishes to choose from.
Everything was delicious, but even so, it was so hard to get over paying so much for a burger.
As I just kept saying that over and over, John leaned over to mention that we had to do our dishes later. That gave the nice lady a giggle, too.
So off we went, with very contented bellies, even if we did have to cook it ourselves.
