Be Thankful
Be Thankful
I don’t know how it happened, but suddenly, it’s the Sunday before Thanksgiving.
As my son said to me on the phone today, one of his professors at school said, “Let the eating season begin.”
It’s so true, from now till New Years, I am sure even our ankles get fat.

At church today, there was a story inserted in our bulletin that I would like to share with you:
Be Thankful (17 were not!)
“Just a short drive from my former home is the campus of north Western University in Evanston, Illinois. Years ago, the school had a life-saving squad that assiste passengers on the Lake Michigan boats. On September 8, 1860, a passenger boat, the Lady Elgin, floundered near Evanston, and a ministerial student, Edward Spencer, personally rescued seventeen persons. The exertion of that day permanently damaged his health and he was unable to train for the ministry. When he died some years later, it was noted that not one of the seventeen persons he had saved ever came to thank him.”

“…be ye thankful.” Col. 3:15
Hi Barb,
Not to worry. We’ve been preparing for the, and I will swipe this phrase, eating season for two months and are no better prepared than if we had started yesterday. In some ways, such as in the total complete and perfect cleaning of the house, we have actually gone backward as things like finding space to store the new ladder, needed to glue the wall paper at the top of the 12 foot ceilings back in place in the dinning room, and getting the new throw rugs that cover the rips in our linoleum floors secured. There’s also the problem with finding storage space for all of the extra cleaning supplies my wife bought. You can’t win.
On the up side, a friend brought me a whole leg of venison yesterday, which solves the problem of what extra meat dish to serve. I’m going to BBQ that sucker with apple and pecan wood smoke after marinating it in red wine and apple cider vinegar over night. (crossed fingers)
As to helping people, someone passed on a bit of wisdom to me years ago on that subject. It was something like, “if you decide to help someone in anticipation of their appreciation, there are better uses of your time.”
Eat well!
