ANZAC Day
Anzac Day is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand that broadly commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders “who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations” and “the contribution and suffering of all those who have served.” Originally 25 April every year was to honour the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who fought at Gallipoli in the Ottoman Empire during World War I. Anzac Day is also observed in the Cook Islands, Niue, Pitcairn Islands, and Tonga. It is no longer observed as a national holiday in Papua New Guinea or Samoa.
Originally I think John and I thought we would go to the sunrise service at Kings Park for Anzac Day, but as it turned out, it was very cloudy and there really wasn’t much of a sunrise. So we had a relaxing morning instead. We did get some Anzac cookies for the occasion, though.
The John matted and framed a watercolor painting of a pink fairy orchid I did for him many years ago. This now is in our entry along with our Banksia coat rack.
Later, we went to the hardware store for a project John is working on, and then we went to Lullfitz Nursery that specialize in native Australian plants. John said he usually goes and doesn’t buy anything.
So glad he had me to help him not return home with anything at all 🙂
Later in the evening, Jeff and Jamie came over for pizza and some Homemade Anzac chocolate chip muffins (ok, I just made the ANZAC part up, but who knows, it could catch on). A lot of the evening we compared World of Warcraft to Skyrim.
