Memnon
Description: Memnon (B&O #57)
Baltimore & Ohio RR no.57 was built by the New Castle Manufacturing Co of New Castle, Delaware in 1848. The Baltimore & Ohio Railroad used such locomotives to haul long coal and passenger trains. B.&O.R.R. no.57 is one of the least altered and most important early locomotives to have survived to the present day. Memnon has blind (flangeless) center drivers. It burned coal, whereas most engines of that day burned wood. Memnon is now housed at the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum
